FAQ

Are there any hidden or added costs to the rental fees?
The rental fees are stated for each property. The only added costs are MN state sales tax of 6.5% and occasionally a certain county charges an extra tax which does not exceed 4%. All of this information will be given in your confirmation letter at the time of booking. Any optional fees would include boat rental and pet cleaning at properties that allow pets.

Do I get a discount if I stay an extended period of time?
The properties are all priced to extend a reduced rate the longer you stay. For example, nightly rates are reduced when you stay a week (or 7 days) and weekly rates are again reduced if you stay a month (or 30 days). Off season times often allow for discounted rates over the high season times.

Do I need to bring linens and towels?
No. All of our properties are furnished with linens, pillows, blankets and bath towels. Please do bring beach towels for the lake if you are staying during the summer months.

Does this home have a kitchen?
Yes, these are all private homes with all of the amenities of a full size house.

Is smoking permitted?
Some people are very sensitive to the smell of smoke; therefore, all of our homes are non-smoking.

Are pets permitted?
Some of our properties do accept pets on a pre-approved basis. There is a pet cleaning fee associated with properties that accept pets.

What time can I check in?
Check-In time is 4:00 p.m. On occasion we have a property available up to two hours early, but usually not during the high season, so please check with us for this option.

When do I have to leave and what do I have to do when I leave?
Check-Out time is by 11:00 am at all properties and we do assess extra fees for late check out (unless you have arranged with us prior to your departure). Please leave the beds you have slept in unmade, or you may remove the sheets from the bed and leave them at the foot of the bed. You are not expected to clean behind yourself, which is the beauty of renting and not owning a private lake home. Some properties provide you with a checklist if there are specific instructions (such as closing curtains, locking doors, etc.) Please always make certain to close all windows and shut all lights off.

Why do I have to pay the whole amount of the rent 3 weeks in advance?
When we take your reservation, we are guaranteeing the owner full payment of the rent for that period, and we are making the home unavailable to rent to other potential renters. The summer season is very short and the owners count on this rental income to pay their expenses.

Can we come a day early or stay an additional day if we want to?
If the cottage is not rented during those weeks, this may be possible and the extra cost is either at a nightly rate, or if you have stayed a week, the extra cost is prorated at the weekly fee rate.

Am I permitted to have overnight guests?
Yes, as long as the occupancy limit is not exceeded and you have informed us that there may be additional guests.

How far are your properties from Minneapolis?
Most of our properties are in the Brainerd area or on the North Shore just beyond Duluth. The drive to most properties is anywhere from 2-4 hours out of the Twin Cities. A couple of the properties are located just 1-2 hours away.

What type of clothing should I bring?
Be prepared for anything from cool and rainy to hot and humid. But rest assured, no matter what the weather, it will surely change from day to day, after all this is Minnesota! The degree of change depends upon the time of year. It is best to pack a medium-weight waterproof jacket, sweats, pants, and shorts. In the summer you should expect hot days and warm evenings (and plenty of mosquitoes); a light jacket or sweater is usually sufficient for an evening on the lake. Bring plenty of cool clothes such as shorts, swim suits, skirts, and loose-fitting dresses and pants. Of course, you could pack very little and buy what you need when you get here – the shopping is fantastic!
